Why Jobs are Important to Teens
What does Bill Gates (CEO Microsoft), Michael Dell (Dell Computers), Russell Simmons (Founder of Def Jam Records and Phat Farm Clothing) have in common? They all had jobs as teenagers. Some of the world’s most successful people got a head start before they were adults. Getting a job while still a teenager, may very well be one of the most significant events in any young person’s life and is an important step between adolescence and adulthood. Teenagers who get jobs are affected in many positive ways. Getting a job will allow them to: Earn money for expenses which will help develop a greater appreciation for the value of money. Learn social skills and respect for leadership, authority, and property. Develop a sense of responsibility and independence. Develop self-discipline and self-esteem. Develop work-related skills. All of these will prepare you for the real world. Consider this. Those who have jobs as teens, not only have lower instances of unemployment after graduation, but also find better jobs. They learn at a young age exactly what it takes not only to get jobs, but to keep them. Independent teens become independent adults. You have skills, and talents that would be valuable to the right employer. The challenge is finding the right employer. Skills and the right attitude will get you a job!
